Soda Bread

  • 12ozs Laxey Glen Mills Soda flour
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • teaspoon salt
  • pint carton of buttermilk (or pint milk or water)
  • 1oz butter, melted (if required)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). 2. Sift flour, sugar, and salt. Blend buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir in butter if required. Mixture should not be too dry. Knead lightly or gently turn out on to floured baking sheet and pat dough into a round. Cut a cross in dough and brush with milk. 3. Bake for 30 minutes, when properly cooked, base of loaf when tapped, should sound hollow or until a toothpick inserted in the bread comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Wrap in foil for several hours, or overnight, for best flavour.
